Church in Angus, with interment in the Edgar Cemetery. Mrs. DeVore is a sister of M.F. Joy of Nelson. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 6, 1949 Delmar Ernest DeVore was born in Nuckolls County, near Oak, Nebraska, August 30, 1888, and reached the age of 60 years, four months and five days. He was the youngest son of John and Esther DeVore. He lived in Nuckolls County all of his life with the exception of two years in Wyoming and one year in Cherry County, Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Miss Kate Joy October 20, 1915. To this union were born two sons, Donald and Charley, both at home. Besides his faithful wife and sons, he leaves to mourn his departure, three brothers, Frank of Peoria, Illinois, Lee and William DeVore, and one sister, Ethel Judy, all of Angus, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He was a devoted husband and father. Soon after his marriage he with his wife united with the United Brethren Church of Angus to which he remained a member. Ernie was a great sufferer for many years, but was patient an bore it much of the time in silence and not complaining. He was in the hospital in Superior when the call came on January 4, 1949. Funeral services were conducted at the Angus United Brethren Church by Rev. C. W. Mersch of Davenport, January 7, 1949 at 2:00 p.m. Mr. J.O. Hamel of Superior sang "Life's Railway to Heaven," "Jesus I Come to Thee" and "Asleep in Jesus," accompanied. Mrs. Otha Skinner was pianist. Pallbearers were five nephews of the deceased, Earl Kincannon, Keith and Fletcher Hamel, Henry and Junior Joy and Paul Fielder. Flower girls were Mrs. Charley Stevens, Mrs. James Thorp and Mrs. James Hattan. A poem written by Mrs. William DeVore was read at the services: How often we long for the promised land, Where the toil and pain of this life are o'er And we can behold our Saviour's face, And sing His praise forever more. For He has a place prepared for us, Where He shall call His own, He will guide us with His loving care, We'll not have to cross Jordan alone. He will wipe away all tears from our eyes, How joyously sweet will the meeting be, With the loved one there, who have gone before And sing his praise through eternity. Burial was in the Edgar Cemetery. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 20, 1949; pg. 4
