Description	:	Pioneer of Springer Township Passes Away The Great Summons came to Dennis Madigan at his home in this city last Friday, February 24, 1922. Deceased was a pioneer settler of Springer Township, but had moved with his wife to Lisbon 17 years ago. He had been ill for an extended period, owing to a cancer trouble, which was the direct cause of his death. Read More	Pioneer of Springer Township Passes Away The Great Summons came to Dennis Madigan at his home in this city last Friday, February 24, 1922. Deceased was a pioneer settler of Springer Township, but had moved with his wife to Lisbon 17 years ago. He had been ill for an extended period, owing to a cancer trouble, which was the direct cause of his death. Dennis was born October 20, 1860, in Canada to parents Patrick and Johanna (Powers) Madigan. He was baptized on December 25, 1860 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Perth, Ontario, Canada. He came to North Dakota in 1880, and soon settled permanently in Springer Township where he became a good, practical farmer in his day. On May 29, 1889 he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Brannaugh at St Aoysius Catholic Church in Lisbon. They farmed in Springer Township until 1905 when they moved to Lisbon. The deceased leaves his wife Martha; one brother John "Jack" Madigan; and three sisters - Mrs. Catherine Roach of Lisbon, Mrs. Ellen Kidd of Whiteson, Oregon, and Mrs. Mary Ann Simpson of Pocatello, Idaho. The funeral was held Monday from St Aloysius Catholic Church at 10:30 am. The Rev. Father Cullen officiated. The pallbearers were J.L. Allison, C. G. Mead, Adam Hardebeck, Gust Magnuson, Jim Casey, and Pat Rowe. He was interned at St Aloysius Catholic Church cemetery located north of the city. (The Lisbon Free Press, March 22, 1922, pg 1, col 4)
