Dio Mark Holsteen was born Aug. 30, 1884 in Burlington, Ia., and passed away Nov. 22, 1958 in Nelson, Neb., at the age of 74. His boyhood was spent at his farm home near Burlington. He attended the University of Iowa before coming to Nuckolls county (sic) in 1906 to farm with his brother near Cadams. On Dec. 22, 1908 he was united in marriage to Mable N. Campbell at Hebron, Neb. To this union eight children were born: Mrs. Lois Mumford of Nelson, Mrs. Ruth Nickolls (sic) of Lincoln, Mrs. Charleen Adcock of Superior, Gene Holsteen of Nelson, Mrs. Shirley Janssen of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Vonna Firestone of Riverton, Wyo. Two of their children died in infancy. Dio farmed north of Nelson until ten years ago when he retired and moved to Nelson. He served on the schoolboard for the Bethel school district some years and was a charter member and one-time president of the Farmers Union Oil board. For a number of years he was a member of the United Brethren Church in the Pleasant View community. When they moved to town he became a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Holsteen was always a diligent worker, a true and faithful husband and father, and was always willing to help his neighbors and friends. Those who survive him are his wife and family, 17 grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother, Fred S. Holsteen of Burlington, Ia., one sister, Mrs. Charles Huffman of Carlyle, Mont., and many other relatives and friends. The pallbearers were John Holsteen of Mediapolis, Ia., Fred Holsteen and Harlan Holsteen, Denmark, Ia., Harold Mitchell, Republic, Kan., Maurice Mitchell, Chester, Neb., and Robert Campbell of Hastings.
