Donald was born June 7, 1932 at Sherman County the son of Charles and Victoria (Zaruba) McCarville. Survivors are: wife of 59 years, Phyllis; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Jack Tindall of Osceola, Donna and Joe Wieczorek of Lubbock, TX and Kay and Dave Tschantre of Columbus, NE; brother, Leonard McCarville of Kearney and sisters, Ilene Gembala of Montana, Alice Spiehs of Grand Island, JoAnn and Jim Kalkowski of Rockville, Louise and Fred Hartman of Kearney, Donette and Robert Danburg of Missouri and Betty and Alan Labs of Colorado; grandchildren, Joey, Jenny, Devin, Casey and Dylan and great-grandchildren, Cody, Autumn, Jena and Caleb. Donald was preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Leona Kowalski and Caroline Sonnenfeld and great-grandson, Jaydon Tindall. On September 2, 1952 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Krakowski in Rockville. The couple resided in Grand Island. In 1953 Don served in the service in Germany while patrolling the Russian border driving a tank. Following his military service Don began driving truck. He drove long hauls for Behlen Manufacturing and for the past couple of years drove for Pellats Plus in Chapman until his retirement. Don was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and the American Legion. Inurnment was in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Rockville, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on June 14, 2012 ******************************************************* Donald McCarville was killed in a motorcycle/car crash yesterday afternoon just outside Grand Island. McCarville, 80, of 4191 New York Ave. was killed approximately one-quarter mile east of the Shady Bend Road intersection on Capital Avenue. The crash occurred at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday. According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Department, the preliminary investigation determined that a 1999 Nissan Sentra driven by Britteney Baker, 21, of Grand Island was westbound on Capital Avenue when it crossed the center line and struck head-on an eastbound 2005 Suzuki three-wheeled motorcycle driven by McCarville. McCarville was pronounced dead at the scene. Baker initially told law enforcement officers who responded to the scene that the driver of the Nissan had fled on foot. After a brief search of the area, she admitted to being the driver, according to the press release. Sheriff Jerry Watson said Baker, who wasn't injured, had been alone in the car at the time of the accident. Seat belt usage at the time of the crash for Baker is unknown at this time, according to the release. Baker was taken into custody for not having a driver's license, driving left of center, false reporting and motor vehicle homicide. She was taken to St. Francis Medical Center following the crash for a blood draw, which is standard procedure in a fatal crash, Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris Rea said yesterday. The reason Baker drove left of center was still being investigated today, Watson said. She will likely be in court this morning, he said. Baker of 608 S.
