Description	:	Donald Micheel, 67, of Pierre, died Wednesday, February 29 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Donald Earl Micheel was born October 15, 1944, in Gordon, Neb., the son of Earl and Mae Micheel. He was reared in Merriman, Neb., on the Pioneer Hereford Ranch where his father was involved with an uncle in raising purebred Hereford cattle. He attended school in Merriman where he was a 1962 graduate. Read More	Donald Micheel, 67, of Pierre, died Wednesday, February 29 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Donald Earl Micheel was born October 15, 1944, in Gordon, Neb., the son of Earl and Mae Micheel. He was reared in Merriman, Neb., on the Pioneer Hereford Ranch where his father was involved with an uncle in raising purebred Hereford cattle. He attended school in Merriman where he was a 1962 graduate. After graduation, he attended what was then known as Kearney State College and taught one year at the Irwin, Neb., and Rural School before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was stationed for a time in Massachusetts before deployment to the Philippine Islands and then to Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Don began working for the South Dakota Department of Transportation where he worked for 31 years for the Engineering Department, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and served as their treasurer and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Don is survived by his wife, Nita Micheel, of Pierre; one son, Shawn Soper, of Lincoln, Neb.; three step children, Scott Jongeward and Wanda Amundson of Pierre and Jodi Sties of Donahue, Iowa; two sisters, Nancy Allard of Valentine, Neb., and Shirley Rittenbach of Globe, Ariz.; three grandchildren, eight step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Micheel. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Sunday, March 4 at Isburg Funeral Chapel. Services will be 10:00 am, Monday, March 5 at Isburg Funeral Chapel with Chaplin Charlie Walker. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery
