Richardson, Sr., sixty eight retired planter and lumberman of Bucksport, died Wednesday afternoon in McLeod's Infirmary in Florence, following an extended illness. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. Cecil D. Brearley of Conway officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery. Richardson, Sr., sixty eight retired planter and lumberman of Bucksport, died Wednesday afternoon in McLeod's Infirmary in Florence, following an extended illness. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. Cecil D. Brearley of Conway officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery. A native of Whiteville, North Carolina, Mr. Richardson in the late nineties came to Horry County and along with his father, Capt. V. V. Richardson of Whiteville and E. B. Malone of Philadelphia organized the Richardson Cypress and Lumbert Company at Bucksport, which organization was the successors of the Buck Lumber manufacturers, pioneers in the lumber business in Eastern Carolina, beginning in the year 1839. And near the same site later Mr. Richardson merged his business with the Huntley's of Winston Salem NC and organized the Huntley-Richardson Company on the site of the former manufacturing company. The company went out of business a few years ago. Since that time Mr. Richardson has continued in the lumber business in Georgetown County with his son. He was a prioneer in the organization of Conway Hospital and served as a trustee in the early history of the institution. He married Miss Jessamine Buck, youngest daughter of the late Captain Henry L. Buck. Mrs. Richardson survives along with an only son Donald V. Richardson of Georgetown, two grandchildren and three sisters. The body of Mr. Richardson was taken to Conway Wednesday night.
