And now, for the rest of the story:Donna Montgomery, the daughter of LeRoy and Elsie Nelson, was born on April 12, 1925 in Nelson, Nebraska. She passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Northern Colorado Medical Center Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit, at the age of 85 years.Donna lived in Nelson, Nebraska until graduating from Nelson High School. She then moved to San Francisco and worked for Remington Rand following the end of World War II. She was united in marriage to Robert Montgomery on June 18, 1948, originally of Steubenville, Ohio. They settled in Los Angeles where he coached at Pepperdine College while attending graduate school at USC.In 1959, Bob and Donna moved their three sons to Greeley, Colorado, where in 1962 they welcomed their fourth child (and first girl) to the family. While he pursued a career at UNC, culminating in his eventual appointment to the position of Dean of the School of HPER, she thrived in the role of loving wife and mother.Donna was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years playing with friends at both Highland Hills and the Greeley Elks Lodge #809. In the 90's she worked at the Elks golf shack as a "waitress" (her first minimum wage job) and famously was forced to reconsider her well-established, lifelong crusade against generous tipping. In their retirement years, Donna and Bob split their time between Greeley in the summer and Lake Havasu City in the winter, where they made many new friends at the Lake Shore Condos. She continued to attend the Nelson High School Class Reunions well into her early 80s.She was preceded in death by: Her husband Bob; her parents, Roy and Elsie Nelson of Nelson, Nebraska; two sisters, Madalene Graham of Superior, Nebraska and Phyllis Nelson of Fullerton, California and a brother, Duane Nelson of Cupertino, California.Survivors include four children; Craig Montgomery of Evans, Colorado; Kirk Montgomery of Alpine, California; Kim Montgomery of Greeley, Colorado and Christi Donaldson of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; two in-laws; Fay Montgomery of Greeley, Colorado and Dick Montgomery of Uniontown, Ohio.
