She passed away Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at her home in Fullerton, California, at the age of 79 years. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1938. After graduation, she worked in the office of H.A. Brubaker, Nuckolls County Attorney. But Phyllis had the desire to travel and her career took her to the cities of Washington, D.C., New Orleans, San Francisco, New York and ultimately Los Angeles. She made her home in Fullerton, California, for 42 years. In 1957 she began working for Fischer & Porter Co. in Los Angeles. While learning the flow instrumentation business, she completed her Engineering degree at night school. In the early 70's Phyllis and two partners formed their own company, "Flow-Metrics" which grew into a highly successful corporation doing business worldwide. An astute business person, Phyllis distinguished herself by her determination to achieve her goals. She was an ardent lover of animals. No stray dog or cat ever went hungry. Although her personal pets were always Dalmatians and German Shepherds, she permitted a wild opossum to live in her garage, putting out extra cat food so it would not starve. As in business, she was very competitive, enjoying the challenge of sports or games. She especially enjoyed golf and bridge, but later in life became quite proficient at pool and spent many hours at the local Senior Citizen Center, perfecting her game. But Phyllis will best be remembered for her sense of humor, compassion and her love of family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Madalyn Graham; and one brother, Duane Nelson. Those who will greatly miss having her in their lives are her sister, Donna Montgomery; a brother-in-law, Bob; nieces, Duana and Christi; nephews, Homer, Craig, Kirk and Kim; and a cousin, Clifford Harrington; as well as many friends.
