Description	:	Doran E. (Day) Newberry, 59, of Kearney, died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, March 30th at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Holzinger and Rev. Doug Denui officiating. (Day) Newberry, 59, of Kearney, died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born March 2, 1958 in Kearney to Billy B. and LaVonne M. (Brundige) Day. She lived in Miller, NE until the age of 4, when the family moved to Loup City. She attended school and graduated from Loup City High School in 1976. She moved to Lincoln for work and was later married to Charles “Chuck” Newberry on July 7, 1978 at the First Baptist Church in Loup City. The couple moved to Ravenna where they worked for a rancher. She also worked for a local veterinarian. They moved later to Gibbon where Doran owned a cleaning business that she continued when they moved to Shelton. They moved to Kearney in 1986 where she worked for Cabelas for many years. Charles and Doran dissolved their marriage in 1996. She continued living in Kearney with their son, Nathan who was born in 1983. Doran became plagued with several health issues that kept her from working. On July 4, 2000 she met her significant other, James Martin. They have been partners in life until the time of her death. She enjoyed reading, cooking, knitting, fishing and had raised Registered Doxens. Doran was an avid pet lover and always felt bad that she couldn’t have a pet when she moved into an apartment. She is survived by her son Nathan Newberry of Kearney; partner in life James Martin of Kearney; sister Dacia (James) Dzingle of Loup City; brothers Dennis (Rhonda) Day of Grand Island, Daniel (Susan) Day of Loup City and Douglas (Sharon) Day of Loup City; paternal aunt Glenola (Day) Kleckner of Kearney; uncle Donald Day of Omaha and numerous nieces, nephews who she loved dearly. Doran was preceded in death by her parents Billy B. and LaVonne (Brundige) Day; paternal grandparents Glen and Alice (Boyd) Day; maternal grandparents Dwight and Violet (Lewis) Brundige; aunts Connie Sue Brundige, Verla Mae (Ron) Owings and Patricia Day and uncle Weldon Kleckner. She will be missed by all who knew her and came in contact with her. She had a heart of gold and would try to help anyone in need.
