Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 South Main St., Aberdeen, with Fr. DeWayne Kayser officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, with a public prayer service being held at 5 p.m. Visitation continues on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. Doris Driscilla Quam was born in Aberdeen on Sept. 16, 1928, to Chester and Violet (Rawden) Quam. Her family lived on a farm near Scatterwood Lake. Early childhood memories include going with her mother to take lunch to her father while working "the Madison quarter" with horses, going to Chelsea for free movies, roller skating, picnics, and dances all at Scatterwood Lake. She attended the Evan's grade school and graduated from Northville High School in 1946. Her family moved to Aberdeen and lived in the "Albin" house on Arch Street and Doris worked at the Aberdeen National Bank. She married Gordon Paul Roettele on May 12, 1951, at Columbia. They made their home on a farm north of Columbia, where she lived until her death. Doris enjoyed making quilts for her family, doing word finds and puzzles, gardening, cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed playing cards and bowling with her lady friends. She volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital for Popcorn Day. She looked forward to the holidays and special occasions with her children and grandchildren. She is remembered for her independence, patience, kindness, and loyalty to her family. Survivors include three sons, Duane (Cheri) Roettele of Columbia, Dallas (Debra) Roettele of Aberdeen and Troy Roettele of Aberdeen; five daughters, Lynn Frohling of Aberdeen, Denise (Chuck) Knecht of Houghton, Paula Sippel of Aberdeen, Pam (Dick) Siefkes of Bath and Tracie Gates of Aberdeen; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Warren (Helen) Quam of Shell Lake, Wis. and Everett (Jeanie) Quam of Aberdeen and three sisters, Jean (Jim) Roettele of Columbia, Marilyn Toves of Fayetteville, N.C. and Joan (Mike) Whittlinger of Middletown, Del. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon on April 20, 1993; one sister, Marvine and one great-granddaughter, Hayli. Casket bearers will be all of Doris' grandchildren, Terry Roettele, Adam Roettele, Austin Knecht, Tanse Herrmann, Mike Roettele, Collin Siefkes, Corey Siefkes, Stacie Renner, Eric Frohling, Jennifer Pipes, Erin Knecht, Kelli Sippel, Kari Sippel, Caitlin Siefkes, Trey Gates, and Lane Roettele.
