She was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Hoxie, Kan., the daughter of Cletus and Margaret Adams Shafer. She married Theodore E. Mahan Sept. 29, 1945. He died May 1, 1983. Mrs. Mahan worked at Nelson Nursing Home for several years before retirement. In addition to her father of Gladstone, Ill., Mrs. Mahan is survived by one daughter, Dianna Nowell of Lone Tree; three sons, Ted of Gladstone; Steven of Lockridge and Jim of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Wanda Strange of Saline, Kan., and Glada Hull of Wever; and one brother Clayton Shafer in Germany. Also surviving are three half-sisters, Ruth Arnold of Ottumwa, Shirley Fry of Albia and Janiete Clark of Spencer; two half-brothers, Darriel Lee of Marshalltown, and Jerry Coatney of Brazil, Iowa; three step-sisters, Ruby Kuzik of Glendale, Ariz., Julia Mooney of Phoenix, Ariz., and Bonnie Admundson of Glendale, Calif.; and one step-brother, Russell Coatney of San Antonio, Texas. In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Mahan was preceded in death by one brother, Franklin Shafer, and one step-brother, Doyle Coatney.
