Description	:	Dorothy E. Major, 79, formerly of Batavia, entered into new life on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Sunnybrook Living Care Center, Fairfield, Iowa. She was born Nov. 28, 1929, in rural Jefferson County to Joseph M. and Sylvia E. Lawrence Bradshaw. Dorothy attended several rural country schools and Batavia High School. On Feb. 1, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa, Dorothy was united in marriage with Drexel Major Jr. He preceded her in death Feb. 3, 2007. On Feb. 1, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa, Dorothy was united in marriage with Drexel Major Jr. He preceded her in death Feb. 3, 2007. She and Drexel lived in the Batavia area and raised four children; Judy Dovico (husband Larry), Randy Major (wife Karen) all of Batavia, Joan Pumphrey of Omaha, Neb., and Robert Major (wife Candy) of Nashville, Tenn. Dorothy is survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a brother Merle Bradshaw (wife Ila Mae). She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Margerie Doud and Marie Bradshaw. Dorothy attended the Faith Chapel in Ottumwa for several years. She helped with Girl Scouts and served as room mother while her children were young. Dorothy enjoyed following the many activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of the outdoors is a special memory of her family. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be on Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Batavia with Pastor Tom Shipley officiating. Casket bearers are Brian Major, Jeremy Pumphrey, Joe Dovico, Jake Scherer, Tyler Sanders and Larry Doud. Published in the Ottumwa Daily Courier from 5/28/2009 - 5/29/2009
