Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Martin died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Garden View Nursing Home in O'Fallon. She was born Jan. 8, 1904 in South Bend, Wash., the daughter of John O. and Ella M. (Woods) Dowers. She and her family moved to Lawrence in 1905. She moved from Lawrence six years ago to Fairfield Bay, Ark., and then two years ago to O'Fallon. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence and attended Kansas University for two years. In 1945 she became secretary for Liberty Memorial High School, and later Lawrence High School. She retired in 1971. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, KU Alumni Association, Sertoma Club and Retired Teachers Club. She married Edward B. Martin on July 30, 1928, in Salina. He died Feb. 11, 1967. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Fitzsimmons, Fairfield Bay, Ark.; a son, Edward B. Martin, St. Charles, Mo.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. The family suggests memorials to Watkins Community Museum of History, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
