Description	:	Dorothy Softley Kauhl, age 90, died at her home in Pennsylvania on December 18. She was born near Grafton to Ernest and Sarah Kleinschmidt Softley on February 8, 1924. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1941. Dorothy started teaching in Fillmore County and Geneva schools. After graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1950, she taught in American Dependents Schools in Germany where she met Syracuse, N.Y. native, Herman P. Kauhl. They married in 1953. Read More	Dorothy Softley Kauhl, age 90, died at her home in Pennsylvania on December 18. She was born near Grafton to Ernest and Sarah Kleinschmidt Softley on February 8, 1924. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1941. Dorothy started teaching in Fillmore County and Geneva schools. After graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1950, she taught in American Dependents Schools in Germany where she met Syracuse, N.Y. native, Herman P. Kauhl. They married in 1953. Dorothy continued her 36 year teaching career in schools in Alco, Tenn.; Princeton, N.J.; and Waynesboro and State College, Penn. She earned a Masters Degree from Shippensburg (PA) State College, as well as Reading Specialist certification. She retired in 1987. In retirement, the Kauhls traveled extensively with Elderhostels, wintered in Carefree, Ariz., and maintained a remarkable garden around their Pennsylvania home. Earlier this year, they moved to Senior Housing in nearby Pleasant Gap, Penn. A member of the State College Presbyterian Church, Dorothy served as Clerk of Session and most recently led a Presbyterian Women's Bible study. She is survived by her husband, Herber, of 61 years; daughters, Nancy and husband, David LeRoy; and Kathy and husband Mark Johansen; granddaughter, Kara Johansen, sister, Muriel and husband Rolan Anderson; and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Ralph. A memorial service will be held in State College, Penn., with later interment of ashes at the Fairmont Cemetery.
