Description	:	Ernest Frederick Softley, son of Fred and Jane Jenny Softley was born at Hooper, Dodge County, Neb. on December 25, 1898. He passed away at the Bryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln on April 29, 1977. Ernest received Christian baptism in the Methodist Episcopal church, Hooper, on April 10, 1899. At the age of five he moved with the family to a farm four miles south of Grafton and since that time has lived in the Grafton and Fairmont communities. Read More	Ernest Frederick Softley, son of Fred and Jane Jenny Softley was born at Hooper, Dodge County, Neb. on December 25, 1898. He passed away at the Bryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln on April 29, 1977. Ernest received Christian baptism in the Methodist Episcopal church, Hooper, on April 10, 1899. At the age of five he moved with the family to a farm four miles south of Grafton and since that time has lived in the Grafton and Fairmont communities. When Ernest was 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, but he was rejected at the recruit depot in Fort Logan, Col., because of a heart condition. The following year he was drafted to serve his country, but the Armistice of November, 1918, was signed before his induction date. Ernest was united in marriage to Sarah Kleinschmidt of Grafton on August 23, 1922. A son, Ralph and two daughters, Dorothy and Muriel, came to bless this union. Time will erase from the memories of those who knew him well, his quiet unassuming manner, his integrity, his capability as a farmer and his devotion as a husband and father. Death came after many years of poor health. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; son, Ralph of Fairmont; two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Dorothy) Kauhl of State College, Pa., and Mrs. Rolan (Muriel) Anderson of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Doris; two sons-in-law, Herbert Kauhl and Rolan Anderson; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Bruce of Fremont, Ray of Omaha and Lloyd of Chadron; one sister, Alice of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces, nephews and other relatives. His parents, two brothers, one sister and a grandson, Gary Softley, preceded him in death. The funeral service was held at the Fairmont Community church at 2 p.m., on May 2, 1977, and was conducted by the Rev. Herbert W. Jackman, pastor. Nancy Jo Galusha was organist and congregational hymns were "Love Divine" and "O God, Our Help in Ages Past." Pallbearers were Ernest Kleinschmidt, Kay Kleinschmidt, Walter Luethke, Dan Softley, Jack Softley and Stephen Rasmussen. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.
