Description	:	Mrs. Dortha Sophia Maxfeldt, nee Heitman, was born October 13th, 1844 in Diepholz, province of Hanover, Germany. In 1865 she with a sister left their native country for America, coming to Davenport, Iowa. Five years later she returned to Germany to get her parents and other sisters and brothers. One son died in infancy. They came to Harlan County in 1874 where... Read More	Mrs. Dortha Sophia Maxfeldt, nee Heitman, was born October 13th, 1844 in Diepholz, province of Hanover, Germany. In 1865 she with a sister left their native country for America, coming to Davenport, Iowa. Five years later she returned to Germany to get her parents and other sisters and brothers. In the autumn of the same year they came to Crete, Nebraska. There on January 30, 1872 she was married to James Maxfeldt. This union was blessed with six children, four sons and two daughters. One son died in infancy. They came to Harlan County in 1874 where Mr. Maxfeldt had taken up a homestead. Here they lived and endured all the trials and hardships known only to the early settlers. Her husband preceded her in death six years ago. She was a kind and loving wife and mother never forgetting the duties toward the church of which she had long been a member. Even in the years of her declining health she was able to faithfully perform the household duties until a week previous to her death when she suffered a paralytic stroke. She departed this life on Monday, November 6th at 8 o'clock A.M., it being the same day and date of her husband's death, only he passed away at 5 o'clock P.M. She leaves to mourn her departure of this life three sons, Louis of Franklin and John and Henry and two daughters, Mrs. Dorthea Klein and Mrs. Sophia Branan, all of Stamford, fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers, and three sisters. She reached the age of 78 years and 23 days. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Stamford Lutheran Church by Rev G. Klatt of Ohiowa, a former pastor. She was then taken to the public cemetery and placed in her final resting place beside her husband, to await the glad resurrection morn. The pallbearers were: Carl Pentz, Nic Nielson, C.A. Mackprang, Dick Dunkhaus, John Von Hollen Sr., and Henry Rosenbrock.
