There are another set of transcription online but they are somewhat edited and paraphrased from the original texts: Fairfield Ledger Monday May 3, 1926 Pg. 1 Col. 6 W. D. COOP DEAD AT PERLEE HOME End Came Suddenly of Apolplexy Following Illness of Two Weeks W. D. Coop, for a generation a merchant of Perlee and well known over the county, died suddenly yesterday afternoon of apoplexy at his home in that town. He had been ailing for several weeks but was able to be about, and had gone to an out-building. When he did not return to the house, his wife became alarmed and started search. She found the door of the building locked and broke it open to find him dead. Death had come evidently without pain. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Antioch church and will be conducted by Dr. Gilbert Voorhies of the Fairfield Presbyterian church. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery. His only sister is Mrs. Mary Billingsley of Pasadena, Calif. He also had two half-brothers and a half-sister, Wade and Glen Coop and Hazel, all of Huntley, Mont. Mr. Coop was born in Penn township and had lived there nearly all his life, the exception being for some years when he was a boy and made his home with his grandfather in Taylor county. He had been in business in Perlee for thirty-five years, having seen that town in the height of its prosperity. He had been for twenty-four years in partnership with J. J. Kyle under the firm name of Coop and Kyle. Mr. Coop was born March 12, 1862 (sic. or March 11, 1862). He married Miss Mary Moriarty June 10, 1909. They had no children. Funeral services wil (sic. will) be in charge of the Odd Fellows, he being long a member of the Perlee Lodge. ---------------------- Fairfield Ledger Friday May 7, 1926 Pg. 6 Col. 1 & 2 Douglas B. Coop Douglas B. Coop was born March 11, 1862 (sic. or March 11, 1862),the son of J. Samuel and Anne Blakely Coop (sic. her full given name can vary with sources), on a farm in Penn township, Jefferson county, Ia. He went with his parents in 1872 to Jasper county, Mo., and lived there two years. His mother dying Nov. 30, 1874, he and his sister, now Mrs. Billingsley, of Pasadena, Calif., were taken into the home of their grandfather Charles Blakely, with whom he went in 1876 to Taylor county, Iowa, living there until in young manhood he returned to this county. He spent a number of years in the employ of farmers in the home community and about 1892 entered mercantile business in a general store at Perlee, Iowa, first as a partner, then for a few years alone, then again as a senior partner. This was his chief business interest until death called him from labor May 2, 1926. His faithfulness as an employee was shown by a continuous seven year service with one employer and as a business partner by his twenty-five year association terminated by his death. On June 10, 1909, he married Miss Mary Moriarty of the home community and his faithfulness to the duties of home thus established has been another marked evidence of his character. Besides his wife and her sister, who has shared their home, and his sister, Mrs. Billingsley, two brothers, Wade and Glen Coop, and a sister, Hazel, the children of a second marriage of his father, survive him. These have their home near Huntley, Montana. Genial in his contacts, he possessed in a marked degree the sterling virtues. By sheer force of character he denied himself those expressions of his life which he believed to be hurtful to his influence as a neighbor and a citizen. With loyalty and vigor he gave himself to the support of the movements he thought the best for society and the state and the trusts committed to him by his fellows are evidence of the measure of public confidence he enjoyed. These trusts were varied, among them being that of township trustee for eight years and that of postmaster during his whole business life. For nearly the whole of his adult life he has been associated with the local I.O.O.F. lodge and has always been one of the most prominent and attractive contributors to its life. Though not giving expression to his religious life through church membership the church and its institutions were no stranger to his sympathy and gifts, and to his business partner he has at different times spoken his faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the only abiding basis for individual and institutional life. We who remain, whatever our relationship, are the richer for that he lived among us.
