James D. Matthews, officiating. Burial will be in Old St. David's Cemetery. Dr. McArn was born in Cheraw, Sep. 21, 1865. His parents were Daniel Blue and Nannie Hunter McArn. In Jan. 1894, he married Miss Mary Coit Malloy. Graduating from Davidson College in 1883, he went to Princeton University where he received the M. A. Degree and the B. C. Degree from the Princeton Theological Seminary. Dr. McArn, a retired minister, served the people of Cheraw and First Presbyterian Church as its pastor for fifty two years. From July 1891, until Jan. 1893 Dr. McArn was the Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Wilson, N.C. In Jan. 1893, he came to Cheraw to preach at the church he was baptized in. After fifty two years of faithful service as Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw, Dr. McArn asked to be released from his duties, stepping down in Jan. 1945. Besides his ministerial duties, Dr. McArn always found time to be of service in civic endeavors. He served for many years as member of the board of school trustees. Not content to have opportunities for service come to him, Dr. McArn considered it his duty to aid other denominations as needs might require. Dr. McArn merits recognition as a scholar. His name is in "The Religious Leaders of America" a who's who in the clergy of America. It is in this book that one learns he is the author of The Presbyterian Principle, The Confederate Soldier and "Scotch Achievements and Influences". Surviving are two sons, Theodore, of Appleton, Wisconsin, Hunter of New Orleans; and a daughter, Lois of Cheraw. Published Florence Morning News, November 1958.
