Description	:	BJ was a longtime physician, musician, community leader and humorist in the Griswold area. Billy Jo was born to William Ryan and Edith Lucille (DeVoss) England He graduated from Griswold High School in 1951 and from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1958. BJ married Shirley Nielsen and they became parents to four sons and one daughter. He practiced medicine in Griswold, Iowa for 57 years before retiring in November of 2016. Billy Jo was born to William Ryan and Edith Lucille (DeVoss) England He graduated from Griswold High School in 1951 and from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1958. BJ married Shirley Nielsen and they became parents to four sons and one daughter. He practiced medicine in Griswold, Iowa for 57 years before retiring in November of 2016. BJ practiced "old fashioned medicine", he saw patients whenever needed and without appointments, making house calls for many years. He was on of only a handful of doctors in the state who dispensed medication. He had a seemingly endless supply of funny stories, life experience, and wisdom and he dispensed them liberally. BJ was proud to be followed in the medical profession by his son Bill, his daughter Sheryl and a grandson. BJ was a born entertainer and inherited a love for music from his mother. He learned to play saxophone and his first paid gig was with the Fred Krisinger Band where he played with many friends and relatives. It isn't clear whether BJ wanted to have children or just produce a band of his own. Soon after the children began walking they were assigned an instrument. The "Family Band" took on a different forms over the years including a dance group and a DJ Operation. BJ's biggest commercial success was the "Best of Omaha" Band Rock City, which he and son Brian started. BJ was fortunate to end his musical journey in the Route 48 Big Band with many of the same friends and relatives her started with the Krisinger Band. These included his sister Mary, a granddaughter and her future husband. Mobility and breathing problems slowed Bj's activites in his last years, but never a lessened his passion for life. He used email to continue dispensing humor even after he stopped dispensing medication and was proud to help son Brian release a CD of orginal music.
