Carmel hospital after a lingering illness. He had spent most of his life in this vicinity, at one time owning the drug store where Randall Ester now are located. The survivors are a son, Kenneth Montee of the home; the brothers, Albert Montee, Hepler, J.W. Montee, C. Mart Montee, Pittsburg; Theo Montee, Girard, and Vol Montee, Pittsburg R.R. 2; sisters, Mrs. J. P. Hoke, Stillwater, Okla.; Mrs. J.M. Biles, Fort Scott; Mrs. Jess Miley, Pittsburg; Mrs. J. C. Stames, Winfield and Mrs. Fred Muse, Cherokee. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the First Presbyterian church in Pittsburg. Pittsburg Headlight, May 31, 1928, page 6: Montee Funeral Tomorrow Pittsburg Physician Passes at Age of 57 Years Funeral Services for Dr. Charles Finley Montee, 57 years old, Pittsburg physician who died at 5:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Mt. Carmel hospital, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the First Presbyterian church, with Rev. C.J. Armentrout in charge. Burial will be in Mt. Olive cemetery, with the Masonic lodge directing the service. Pallbearers will be chosen from Pittsburg physicians. Dr. Montee had been ill for some time. He was taken to the hospital May 3. He was born July 15, 1870, in McDonald (sic) County, Illinois. He came west when a boy with his parents, and lived on a farm near Cherokee. He was graduated from the school of pharmacy at Ohio Northern University in 1897, and returned to Cherokee to operate a drug store. Dr. Montee went to St. Louis later to study medicine, and was graduated from Barnes Medical College in 1903. He practiced at Colchester, Ill., seven years before coming to Pittsburg. Dr. Montee and Miss Ina B. Scott of Plymouth, Ill. were married at Plymouth in 1897. Mrs. Montee died at Colchester. Dr. Montee serves as city health officer of Pittsburg for four years and as Crawford County coroner for two years. He formerly conducted a maternity hospital at his residence, 1106 South Broadway.He retired from active practice five months ago on account of poor health. The physician was a member of the First Presbyterian church, and all the local masonic orders, including the Blue Lodge Chapter, Commandery, and Mirza Shrine. He was the son of the late Francis M. Montee.
