Description	:	PENDELL, GEORGE D.—George D. Pendell was born in Illinois July 6, 1883. He died in a hospital at Wichita, Kas., his home being at Derby, Kas., February 18, 1936, at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 12 days. When a young child he came with his parents to Nebraska, settling near Seward, where he spent his boyhood days, and received his early training. Early he was attracted to the study of medicine and entered and graduated from the medical college at St. Louis, afterwards taking a course in osteopathy at the school in Los Angeles. When a young child he came with his parents to Nebraska, settling near Seward, where he spent his boyhood days, and received his early training. Early he was attracted to the study of medicine and entered and graduated from the medical college at St. Louis, afterwards taking a course in osteopathy at the school in Los Angeles. He was married to Miss Julia Settle in 1892 and soon took up residence at Geneva to practice his profession. He suffered the loss of his wife in 1905, and at about the same time their two children were laid by the side of their mother in the Geneva cemetery. Dr. Pendell left Geneva in 1907 and, after taking a postgraduate course, went to Kansas City and later to Wellington, Kas. where he practiced until he returned to Geneva in 1925, where he remained until 1928, when he moved back to Kansas, locating at Derby, where he lived at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Esther Hobbs, April 6, 1919. She with their four children, Marie Esther, Elaine, Paul and Ivan, survive the passing of this worthy husband and father. There are also two sisters, Miss Minerva Pendell of Lincoln, and Mrs. Mary Huffman of Broken Bow, Neb.; and two brothers, E. L. Pendell of Lincoln, and C. E. Pendell of Anoka, Minn. Dr. Pendell was a lifelong Christian, having joined the Methodist church early in life. When he moved to Derby, he found no Methodist church there and accordingly united with another church, the Presbyterian, in order to better service the Kingdom of God. He was faithful and loyal to the last and has gone to a rich and well-earned reward. Many friends at Geneva remember him as an efficient physician, a gentleman, and a Christian, and are grieved to know of his passing and sympathize deeply with the stricken family. Not only his family, but the community in which he lived will feel keenly his loss as he not only ministered to the physical needs of people, but his influence was positive on the social and spiritual side of life. Few men have an opportunity to minister to human needs better than a Christian physician, and Dr. Pendell used his opportunity with great comfort to multitudes. Appropriate services were held in the Presbyterian church at Derby and the body was brought to Geneva for burial. Brief services were held at the Hrubesky mortuary Sunday afternoon, February 23, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Shoaf of the Methodist church. A group of the doctor's old Geneva friends gathered to pay their tribute of respect. Mrs. Pendell, the widow, and E. L. Pendell, a brother, were present. Burial was in the Geneva cemetery.
