The deceased was born at Jacksonville, Ill., September 16, 1858, and was therefore 72 years, 3 months and 28 days of age at the time of his death on January 14, 1931. He came with his parents to Seward county when a boy. His parents entered a homestead three miles west and one-half mile north of Seward, and the early years of the deceased were spent on this "claim," where all the experiences of the pioneer days were encountered. Upon attaining the age of manhood he engaged in farming for himself in that locality, and later moved east of Seward, near Leahey, where he farmed, operated in the livestock business and conducted an elevator. When he retired from this business he moved to Seward and spent his remaining years, but continued in the stock business, dealing mainly in horses. He was honest and upright in all his dealings, and enjoyed the confidence of all those with whom he came in contact. Besides his wife, to whom he was married a number of years ago, Mr. Pendell is survived by three children by a former marriage. They are L. R. Pendell of Porltand, Ore., Mrs. Roy Deets of Maxwell, Nebr., and Glen Pendell of Seward. The two absent children were summoned to Seward before the death of their father. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, as follows: Dr. G. D. Pendell of Derby, Kansas; E. L. Pendell and Miss Minerva Pendell of Lincoln; and Mrs. Mary Huffman of Broken Bow, Nebr. Besides the children those who came to attend the funeral were E. L. Pendell, the brother of Lincoln, Mrs. Huffman, the sister of Broken Bow; Cleon Skillman, a nephew of Lexington; Donald and Belle Pendell, a nephew and a niece of Lincoln; John Cole of Lincoln, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Feese of Franklin. Mr. Cole is a son of Mrs. Pendell, and Mrs. Feese is a granddaughter, she being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Crouse of Seward. A quiet, unassuming citizen, Mr. Pendell played well his part in life's work. He was a kind and considerate husband and father, a good neighbor and a loyal friend. In his death the community has lost another of its citizen who enjoyed the esteem and respect of all. Seward County Democrat, Seward, NE, Thurs, January 22, 1931
