Hattan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Hattan of Nelson, at the Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese, Tuesday, June 7, at 10 a. m. Rev. Gregory Petros officiated at the double ring ceremony and was celebrant of the Nuptial High Mass which followed. During the Mass, Winifred Foust sang "Ave Maria" and "O Lord I Am Not Worthy" accompanied by Leona Skalka. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a traditional gown of white slipper satin with a styled sweetheart neckline and a fully shirred bodice. The long, tight fitting sleeves tapered to a point at her wrists. The gathered skirt swept into a long train. Her fingertip veil of bridal illusion fell from a tiara of orange blossoms. Her only jewelry was a single strand of pearls. She carried a white rosary, a gift of the groom, and a white prayer book topped with red roses and stephonatas from which fell showers of rose buds and stephonatas with white ribbon streamers. MissKathryn Mazour, attending her sister as Maid of Honor, wore a gown of salmon pink marquisette with raffles forming the sleeves and neckline with a matching ruffle on her skirt. Miss Mary Ann Mazour, a cousin of the bride, as bridesmaid, wore an identical gown of ice blue. They wore matching halo head dresses made of net and tiny flowers. Each carried a white satin fan to which was attached a corsage of Talisman roses and yellow carnations. Dwight Adamson served the groom as best man and Richard L. Myes (sic) as groomsman. Wilbur D. Hattan, brother of the groom, and Jerome Mazour, cousin of the bride, were ushers. All wore carnation boutonnieres. The bride's mother chose to wear a gray crepe, and the groom's mother chose to wear black print bemberg. Both wore corsages of white carnations. A reception following the ceremony was held for 85 guests in the Deweese Community Hall which was decorated with white, pink and blue streamers and white bells. Mrs. Lester Mitzner was in charge of the guest book, and Mrs. Edgar Johnson cut the wedding cake. The bridal table was centered with a three-tier cake, which was baked by the groom's mother, topped with a miniature bride and groom. A dance was held in the evening honoring the couple. After their trip to Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Hattan will make their home at 142 North 18, Lincoln, Nebr. Mr. Hattan is a student at the Dental College and is a member of the Xi Psi Phi fraternity. "Hugh" Hattan, 81, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. He was born in Angus, NE, to Paul and Carrie Peters Hattan on November 28, 1927, and spent his childhood in Nuckolls County. He graduated from Nelson High School in May 1944. He then enlisted in the Navy and served 19 months as a radio radar operator during World War II. After his tour of duty, he attended the University of Nebraska and graduated from dental school in May 1952. Following graduation he moved to Concordia to practice with Dr. C.J. Whitney. After practicing dentistry for 44 years, he retired on May 30, 1996. Hugh was member of the Academy of General Dentistry and served for several years as state secretary-treasurer. The Academy named its annual award for outstanding service to the advancement of dentistry the Hugh Hattan Award in his honor. He was a charter member of the Great Plains Study Club. He was also a past president of the Northwest/Golden Belt District Dental Society, a life member of the Kansas Dental Association and member of the American Dental Association. Hugh was very active in a wide range of community organizations. He was a member of the Jaycees and served as president of the Kiwanis Club. He was active in scouting and served in several leadership positions including Club Master for Pack 32. All three of his sons received the Eagle Scout rank. The grass greens were installed during his term as president of the Concordia Country Club. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a member of the Catholic Church and served on both the church board and Catholic school board. He was also a member of the U.S.D. 333 school board for eight years and served as president. Hugh was married to Margaret Mazour on June 7, 1949, in Deweese, NE, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Susan & husband Steve Kittrell, Washington, DC; Linda & husband Ron Logan, Olathe, KS; Dr. Greg Hattan & wife Carla, Hays, KS. Grandchildren are Justin & Jennifer Hattan, Brett & Brandon Logan, Jessica (Hattan) Christensen & Paul Hattan and Holly & Ross Hattan and one great-grandchild Alexander Christensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wilbur and sisters Arnita Pitmon and Leota Farver. Mass of Christina Burial was held Saturday, February 28, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church with Father Barry Brinkman officiating. Burial was in St. Concordia Cemetery.
