He graduated from Nelson, NE. High School in 1938. He worked at the local grain elevator and entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 achieving the rank of Lt. Junior Grade stationed at Pensacola, FL. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married Doris Jean Statz on March 19, 1944, they had 4 children. He was employed by Platte Valley Cement and Tile Manufacturing Co. and for 32 yrs. for the Nebraska Dept. of Roads, becoming District Engineer. He moved from Fremont In 1977 and lived In Omaha until the time of his death. Wilbur was devoted to his family and Church, having been a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since his baptism over 65 yrs. ago. He served in the roles of Financial Secretary, Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Chairman of the Board. His membership is currently at Faith Christian Church, Omaha. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 55 yrs., Doris; his children: Lura (Richard) Cayton, Oklahoma City, Lynelle (Manuel) Yzaguirre, Dallas, Valerie (David) Romberg, Indianapolis, IN., David (Ellen) Hattan, Lewisvllle, TX; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Hubert (Margaret) Hattan. Concordia, KS; and his sisters, Arnita Pitman, Sunnyvale, CA. and Leota Farver, Nelson, NE. Services Mon., July 19th, 10 am. Faith Christian Church. Graveside Service and Interment Mon. 5 pm, Nelson, NE. Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Faith Christian Church or American Cancer Society. VISITATION begins Sun.
