Description	:	Duane A. Koppmann, age 83, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Watertown. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Watertown Wesleyan Church. Interment will be in the Lorinda Cemetery, rural Henry, SD. Military honors will be conducted by the Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion and South Dakota Army National Guard of Watertown. Duane Albert Koppmann, son of Albert and Ella (VanDelinder) Koppmann, was born on November 25, 1928 in Henry, South Dakota. He was raised in Henry and graduated from Henry High School. On January 6, 1951 he married Lois Stewart in the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. Duane enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was discharged from Active Duty in 1955, and then served in the Air Force Reserve for 10 years in a Recovery Squadron. In 1957, Duane graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture. He also, was enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard on October 10, 1972. In 1988, after several years in the military, he retired with a rank of Command Sergeant Major. He began a partnership with Fiksdal Furniture in Webster in 1972 until 1985, at which time he became owner. In 1988, Duane and Lois relocated their home at Lake Kampeska in Watertown. Then, in 1993 Duane retired and sold Fiksdal Furniture. During his lifetime he was a member of many organizations throughout the Webster community such as American Legion, Masons, Kiwanis, and Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver Award. As a lifelong craftsman, Duane enjoyed many hours working in "Kopp's Shop." One of the many items he built was his famous wooden rocking horses that his family and many others still cherish today. Preceding him in death are his parents; son, Wade Koppmann; and his special cousin, Russell VanDelinder. He is survived by his wife, Lois; one son, Kevin (Kristi) Koppmann; two daughters, Karen Koppmann and Wendy (Mark) DeFea; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one on the way.
