Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Leone Marie (Wall); and infant son, Matthias. Survivors include his 12 children, Jean Zach (Doug), Andy Hasley (Kelly), Paul Hasley (Geri), John Hasley (Mary), all of Cedar Rapids, Ann Olsson (Tom), Rosemary Chase (Larry), Sarah Settle (Todd) from Des Moines, Rita Milter (Mike) of Corning, Iowa , Mary Hasley of Raymore, Mo., Mike Hasley (Jodi) Mount Prospect, Ill., George Hasley (Lis) of Hastings, Neb., and Kate Hoch (James) of Westford, Mass. Also surviving are 50 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Leoma Zimmerli and Maryann (Ivan) Grabe. Born on a farm in Benton County, Jerry was the son of Andrew and Minnie Hasley. He grew up near Watkins, Iowa , where he attended grade school and worked as a farm laborer. He later moved to Cedar Rapids and married Leone Wall on Feb. 5, 1942, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Excelling in various employment positions, Jerry was quickly promoted to sales manager at Tehil/Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. During World War II, he co-founded Wenkstern/Hasley Manufacturing, designing and supplying radio crystals for government contractors. Jerry became the proprietor of Modern Appliance Company and received recognition in 1952 as General Electric's National "Top Salesman of the Year." His business ventures expanded by opening one of Cedar Rapids' first fast food restaurants, Jerry's Hamburgers and Back Room and Jerry's Car Wash. Noted for his community service, Jerry was a primary contributor to building Regis High School and was an Honorary Citizen of Boys Town in Omaha, Neb. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club and YMCA. He was a past president of the West Side Civic Club and a Charter member of Elmcrest Country Club. Jerry dedicated his life to his family. He is remembered as a devoted husband and father, with traditional values promoting family life and community. He is known for his colorful storytelling and expressions, the memories he provided at his beloved "Ponderosa" country home, his tomato and flower gardens, home cooking, keen instinct as a bridge player and his generous nature for giving. His mark has been etched in the memories of those he touched for generations to come. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Burial: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. Michael's Cemetery, Norway, Iowa . A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Teahen Funeral Home where family and friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
