His death followed more than ten years of declining health. He was 71 years, 5 months and 28 days old. The youngest of ten children born to James and Amanda Drommond, Pioneer settlers just east of the Colorado-Nebraska line near Sanborn, Earle Drommond was prominently identified with the development of this region since his boyhood. He wa born at the Drommond place in Nebraska on July 10, 1890. He moved with his parents into Wray in 1907. As a youth he was a well known athlete and member of a famed early day baseball team here. On June 5,1912,he married to Mary Cuney. For the first five years of their marriage,the couple lived on the Drommond place in Nebraska, then moved to Wray where Mr.Drommond formed a partnership with his brother,the late Roy Drommond, to operate the City Meat Market and Grocery Store in Wray. He continued in this business form 1917 until 1941 when he retired from the business to devote his time to other interests. He was a member of Wray's first Volunteer Fire department and continued as a member of the department until his retirement. He served on the town council from April of 1931 until April of 1936 and was on the council when the first diesel engine was installed at the municipal light plant. He was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church at Wray and served as board member. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He helped to organize the Wray golf club and continued his support and interest in the golf club even after his health curtailed his activity. He was vital,witty and gregarious and made a notable contribution to the social, civic and material growth of the community he loved. Mr.Drommond is survived by his wife Mary; three daughters, Letha King of Clearwater,Florida, Earlene Whyte and Lyndall Drommond of Wray; a brother, James Drommond of Wray and two granddaughters, Nancy and Peggy Whyte.
