Memorials have been established to First Lutheran Church and the Heart Fund. Forney was born Feb. 13, 1902 in Batavia, the son of Samuel Elmer and Myrtle Evans (sic. Ivins) Forney. He married Edith L. Gurwell July 21, 1023 in Fairfield. An Army verteran, he lived most of his life in Fairfield. He worked as a gas maker in the gas department of Iowa Electric Light and Power for 38 years before retiring March 1, 1967. Before that he had worked at Turney Wagon Factory. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15 and White Shrine. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Maxine Avery of Milton; a grandson, Richard of Newton; two great-granddaughters; a brother, John Forney of Ankeny and a sister, Marie Rhodebeck of Washington. His parents and three sisters preceded him in death.
