Tegeler, 87, of Dyersville, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 137 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m., an American Legion and VFW Service at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:30 p.m. He was born on April 18, 1918, in Dyersville, son of Gerhard and Rosa (Kerkhoff) Tegeler. He married Rosemary "Rosie" Kramer on April 10, 1950, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville; she preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1979. He was educated in the Dyersville area schools. He served in the Army from 1941 to 1946. After returning from World War II, he purchased a blacksmith shop from John Goetzinger. The building on Second Street SE was known as "The Old Brewery." He remodeled the building and began dairy production in 1949, continuing the business his father had begun in 1924. Earl owned and operated Tegeler's Dairy until his retirement in 1985. Throughout his life, Earl enjoyed traveling, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Surviving are his companion of many years, Helen Krogman, of Dyersville; three daughters, Karen (Brian) Brown, of Olathe, Kan., Linda (Dan) Hoerner, of Dubuque, and Janice (Mark) Furst, of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; two sons, Mark (Deb) Tegeler and Gary Tegeler, both of Dyersville; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Cindy) Tegeler, Britta, Tenley and Gretchen Haraldson, Jodi Tegeler and Carlie and Greta Hoerner; a great-grandchild, Max Tegeler; a step grandson, Scott Brown; a brother, Herb (Annie) Tegeler, of Dyersville; three sisters-in-law, Irene Kramer, of Dyersville, Mildred Kramer, of Hopkinton, and Mary Kramer, of Manchester; Helen's children, Barb (Dan) Conlan and Patty (Don Schumacher) Erhler, both of Dubuque, JoAnn (Pat) Roe, of Waterloo, Steve (Deb) Krogman, of Manchester, and Edward (Sandy) Krogman, of Anamosa; and many nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edna Madison and Alma Manley; and two brothers, Elmer F. and Bill Tegeler. A Earl J. Tegeler Memorial Fund has been established.
