Read More	DEATH OF ERNEST MCCARTY Although it was known that Ernest McCarty had been in poor health for some time, nevertheless, when the news was heard Monday afternoon that he had passed away at his home many were the expressions of surprise and regret. Mr. McCarty was around on the street a short time before laughing and joking with everybody in the manner that made him so popular with Villisca residents and many feel the loss of their old friend. Mr. McCarty has been in poor health for the past two years, being the victim of pernicious anemia but he was able the last two months to be on the street and apparently was growing better but a week before his death he was compelled to take to his bed from which he never rose. During all his illness he was the same cheerful person that everybody knew in better and more healthy days. Ernest Claredon McCarthy, son of James W. McCarty and Margaret Bertha Hoyt, was born in Mason County, Illinois March 3, 1867, being at the time of his death 44 years, 5 months, and 4 days. His father died when he was nine years old, and following his death, his mother and her children moved to Iowa, settling in Case County, near Cumberland. Here he lived until 1884 when he moved to Villisca where he has lived ever since. He was married here to Miss May Smith on February 29, 1908. He was by trade a mason and plasterer and followed this occupation until his health gave out. He was a devout member of the Advent Christian Church for about twenty years and attended the meetings regularly. Besides his wife and sister, Mrs. Amy Simons of Villisca, those present at the funeral from out of town were, Joe McCarty, his brother of Omaha, R. T., A. H., and James Hoyt, and Mrs. Sarah Heabings, cousins of Cumberland, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Smith, of Gravity; Mrs. Nettie Lyons and Miss Maude Smith of Shenandoah, and Mrs. Emma Campbell, of New Market. The funeral services were held from the home yesterday morning at 10:00 and were in charge of Elder H. D. Gilmore. The interment was in the Villisca Cemetery.
