Wilkins Ebbeka on April 5, 1914, at Carleton and passed away June 19, 2004, at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford at the age of 90 years, two months and 14 days. She was one of five children in the family. Eda lived in Carleton until she was three. The family then moved to a farm 3 ½ miles south of Geneva. She attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade. Eda worked on her father’s farm until she was to wed Clarence Kelch on Dec. 24, 1936. To this union one daughter was born, Donna Mae Kelch, born Feb. 10, 1938. Eda was a homemaker and cleaned for other people. For many years, she and her mother cleaned the Congregational Church in Geneva. Eda lived in Geneva until the death of her husband in 1993; she then resided in Friend for six years. Two years were spent residing at Garden Square in Crete and her final year and a half were spent in Milford at Sunrise Country Manor. Eda enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening and sharing her thoughts with her family and great-grandchildren. She had a humorous way about her that we all learned to love. Even though Grandma’s color selections were a bit odd, she touched each of our lives like a rainbow. She was knitting for people at the nursing home up until her passing. Eda was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Ella Ebbeka; brothers, William, Walter and Lawrence Ebbeka; sister, Emma Ebbeka Fuller and three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Marvin Slepicka; grandchildren and spouses, Roger and Mary Slepicka, Randy and Wendy Olsen, Jeanne and Kendall Hoggins, and Ron and Mary Slepicka; ten great-grandchildren, Kendra, Kaitlyn and Kyle Hoggins, Dustin, Nathan, Daniel, Deidre, Nicole, Mikayla and Ryan Slepicka and nieces and nephews. Graveside services and interment were held at the Geneva Public Cemetery on Tuesday, June 22, with Rev. Pat Kelley officiating. The Nebraska Signal June 30th, 2004 page 7.
