Hunt, president of the Fairfield Glove and Mitten company, died suddenly at his home, 406 South Main, Sunday just before noon. A heart attack came as he was alone in the house but he was able to reach the telephone and make the operator understand that something was wrong. She immediately notified Dr. I. N. Crow and Dr. K.G. Cook who reached the home to find that he had collapsed but was still alive. He died within fifteen minutes, however. The doctors pronounced the cause of his death coronary occlusion. John Barwise who made his home with him had left for church about a half hour before the attack came. A friend had called him on the telephone about ten minutes before he sustained the fatal attack and nothing in the conversation indicated that he was not in good health. He was born in Fairfield on November 5, 1894, the son of the late Edmund and Elizabeth Lamson Hunt, the youngest ina family of five boys and one girl. His parents and three brothers, Gifford, R. Day, and Fred and his siter Gail preceded him in death. His sister who had made her home with him passed away but two months ago. One brother, Walter, three nieces and four nephews survive him. Mr. Hunt attended Parsons college in 1913 and 1914 and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1916. For a year after graduation he was employed by the Dexter company. In August 1917 he enlisted in hospital unit R which was recruited in Fairfield and vicinity. He served 18 months in France with the unit and was discharged from service in May, 1919. On his return from service he became associated with the Glove and Mitten Company and served in various capacities. He was elected secretary of the company in 1927 and treasurer and manager in 1929. He became president of the company in 1943 following the death of the late Chas. Herring. He was also a director of the Iowa State Savings Bank of this city. He was a charter member of the American Legion and with John Barwise attended the convention of that organization which was held in France in 1927. He had taken an active part in all civic affairs of the community and of the glove industry with which he was associated. He was a member of the Elks and the Masonic lodge. The Hunt family, of which he was the youngest member, early took the leadership in the development of the industries in Fairfield and have been dominant figures in several of them for many years. His nephew, John Hunt, associated with him in the factory and now a captain in the army, has been reached and word has been received from him that the will arrive in Fairfield to attend the funeral. The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 7 at 4 o’clock from the Monger funeral home. The funeral services will be read by Mrs. Roy Louden. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Pall bearers will be Chas. Ireland, P. J. O’Neil, C. W. Bradshaw, Wm. Stever, Jas M. Simmons and Ralph Brown.
