Edna Bertha Emma Siegling was born September 13, 1911 in Burdette Twp., Hand County, South Dakota to John A. & Bertha A. (Mast) Siegling; the oldest of five children. She attended grade school in Burdette, and went to Redfield High School, in Spink County. While in high school, she worked at the Baldwin Hospital. She then returned home to help on the family farm. Edna Bertha Emma Siegling was born September 13, 1911 in Burdette Twp., Hand County, South Dakota to John A. & Bertha A. (Mast) Siegling; the oldest of five children. She attended grade school in Burdette, and went to Redfield High School, in Spink County. While in high school, she worked at the Baldwin Hospital. She then returned home to help on the family farm. On March 27, 1936, she married "The Watkin's Man", Ross Q. Bingham, son of George B. and Mary E. (Kenyon) Bingham. They made their home on his father's homestead farm in Burdette Twp., less than three miles south of Edna's parents. They farmed there until March 1, 1946, when they moved to Vayland, where Ross took the position of Postmaster. In August 1949, they moved into their new home in St. Lawrence which Ross had built. They both loved to be in the midst of a remodeling or building project, either for themselves or others, as Ross was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, as well as being able to do all the other related "jobs". Edna was happiest with a paint brush or roller in her hand, or putting up wallpaper, and being the overall "Inspector General", as Ross called her. Edna was also an expert seamstress, sewing for her family since she was young girl. She was the family "barber and hairdresser", as well as for all her friends. She loved to bake, with pies her specialty. She felt dessert was the most important part of a meal, and was known to suggest to company that perhaps the dessert should be eaten first, "just in case we're too full after dinner". She also loved to crochet, making stacks of beautiful afghans, among other items. For many years, she was substitute postal clerk at the St. Lawrence post office. She entered Prairie Center in Miller November 2002, and later moved to Highmore Health in March 2006. Edna is survived by daughter, Carolyn and grandson, Justin, as well as one sister-in-law, Delores, and 10 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Ronald, in 1937, and husband, Ross, April 6, 1992, brothers Milo (Eunice) and their daughter, Gail; Kenneth (Arlene); Darrell; and sister, Myra (Ronald "Bud" & Maurice); son-in-law, Gus; and all of her husband's family, except for three nieces. Edna was cremated and will be buried at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller, SD at a later date. Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Edna's arrangements.
