Description	:	Edna Sarah Walter, eldest daughter of Asma and Linnie (Molesworth) Walter, was born on October 29, 1888, on her parents' homestead near Reamesville, Kansas. She received her early schooling in Kansas and later attended State Normal School in Hutchinson, Kansas. She taught school in four districts in Kansas: Liberty, Marran, Thornburg, and Jacksonburg. On May 15, 1912, she was united in marriage to Clifford G Garrett at the Methodist Church in Franklin. Two children were born to this union: Opal and Betty. She received her early schooling in Kansas and later attended State Normal School in Hutchinson, Kansas. She taught school in four districts in Kansas: Liberty, Marran, Thornburg, and Jacksonburg. On May 15, 1912, she was united in marriage to Clifford G Garrett at the Methodist Church in Franklin. Two children were born to this union: Opal and Betty. In 1915, Edna suffered a serious stroke, which left her partially paralyzed in body but not in spirit. Despite her handicap, she continued down life's highway without complaint. On September 22, 1929, tragedy again struck when her husband was killed instantly in an auto accident on the Franklin speedway. (He competed in car races.) In spite of her grief, she accepted the challenge of going on alone and raising her daughters. Life was not easy in these years, but she managed to make a home and saw to it that her daughters completed their education. In April of 1956, she sold her home of 31 years and went to California with her daughter Betty and son in law, Kenneth, to make her home with them. In July of that year, she was taken ill and in October, she returned to Nebraska to make her home in the state hospital in Hastings. Later that year, she moved to the Morgan Nursing Home at Inavale. In May of 1964, she entered the Senior Citizens Home in Franklin, where she remained until her death. Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Franklin Methodist Church for almost 55 years; she was also a member of the WSCS for many years. She was an avid admirer of flowers and gardens, spending many hours working with them. Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Surviving are sisters: Mrs. Cora Mabon of Tieton, Washington; Miss Merle Walter of Franklin; one brother: Earl of Smith Center, Kansas; sisters: Mrs. George Dallmann and Mrs. Stephen Mankhey of Franklin; two daughters: Mrs. Frank Anderson (Opal), Hayward, California, and Mrs. Kenneth Davis (Betty), of Lemoore, California; one granddaughter: Mrs. Nels Baxtrum of Portland, Oregon; one grandson: Clifford Anderson of Hayward, California; three great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. Funeral services were held at Hutchins Funeral Home, Thursday, March 5, 1970, at 2 pm, with the Rev. Harold Dodson officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin.
