She died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety. Edna was born near Schleswig, Iowa, where she lived with her parents on the family farm. She was baptized in Christ on September 12, 1909 in the Lutheran faith and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township on April 13, 1924 by Rev. Runge. She was baptized in Christ on September 12, 1909 in the Lutheran faith and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township on April 13, 1924 by Rev. Runge. Edna received her education at the St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township. On January 26, 1930, Edna was united in marriage to Lenard Kastner at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township. The couple made their home on the Kastner Homestead Farm in Otter Creek Township, where they farmed for twenty-three years before moving to Schleswig in 1953. Edna was a devoted member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, the Women's Guild and Dorcas Society, where she held various offices. She was also a member of several card clubs. Edna was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, golfing and quilting. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lenard in 1978, one brother, Harold Schultz, three sisters, Gertude Schultz, Lydia Hollander and Lillie Johnson. Survivors include three daughters, Delores Nemitz of Kiron; Donna Lou Meeves and her husband, Gerald of Schleswig; Edna Mae Johannsen and her husband, Roger Lee of Arthur; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Aldag and her husband, Ted of Schleswig; one brother-in-law, Bayard Johnson of Denison, formerly of Kiron; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 22, 2000 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Barb Buffum, Pam Gronau and Janet Lafrentz singing "The Lamb" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as pallbearers were: Kevin Carstensen, Mark Gronemeyer, Tory Johannsen, Ritchie Meeves, David Strong, Scott Nemitz, Barry Nemitz, Bob Wittorf and Tom Skaggs.
