PHILLIPS DIED AT OMAHA, THURSDAY OF BRIGHT'S DISEASE AFTER A LONG ILLNESS Edwin A. Phillips, a son of Mrs. S. A. Phillips of Villisca, died at his home in Omaha last Thursday morning at nine o'clock after a lingering illness of Bright's disease. Mr. Phillips had been affected with this disease for the past ten years, but it was not until last July that he became critically ill and he had been confined to his bead since that time. His mother from Villisca was present at the time of his death. Edwin A. Phillips was born two miles east of the site now called Villisca on October 24, 1860, being the eldest son of Mr. and MRs. J. L. Phillips. He was fifty-three years, eleven months of age at the time of his death. He was reared in the vicinity and moved at the age of twenty with his parents to Guide Rock, Nebraska. While there he engaged in school eating and in 1886 he homesteaded in northwestern Kansas. He later lived in Grand Island for seventeen years and conducted a profitable clothing business. . After marriage he moved to Omaha where he engaged in the wholesale jewelry business until the past two years. During this time he was employed as a traveling salesman making Omaha his headquarters. The deceased was married to Miss Alta Nora Ross of Villisca at Council Bluffs on January 21, 1905. To this union one child was born, a son, Lowell Robert, who is seven years of age. The wife and the child survive. Mr. Phillips has no other close relatives who survive, with the exception of his mother. A brother Frank, died on August 24 of this year at his home in Superior, Nebraska, being buried in Guide Rock, Nebraska. Another brother died in 1891 at the age of twenty-five years and is also buried in Guide Rock. Mr. Phillips was a member of the M. W. A. Lodge and also of the U. C. T. Fraternity. Funeral services were held at Omaha last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at the home of Mrs. Phillips father A. B. Ross in Villisca last Saturday morning at ten o'clock. Miss Jessie Frances Smith of the local Christian Science church conducted the services here. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Besides the deceased immediate family, Mrs. Frank Phillips of Superior, Nebraska was the only relative at the services present from a distance. Mrs. E. A.
