Description	:	John Loring PHILLIPS, died at his home on East Fourth Street, Thursday, July 31, 1913. Mrs. Phillips had been in poor health for some time in the early spring he was confined to his bed for some time, after which he sufficiently recovered as to be able to come down town each day. A few weeks ago he was again taken ill and failed until death came. Read More	John Loring PHILLIPS, died at his home on East Fourth Street, Thursday, July 31, 1913. Mrs. Phillips had been in poor health for some time in the early spring he was confined to his bed for some time, after which he sufficiently recovered as to be able to come down town each day. A few weeks ago he was again taken ill and failed until death came. The deceased was born in Athens County, Ohio February 11, 1835, and was aged 78 years, 5 months, and 20 days at the time of his demise. He was united in marriage to Sarah A. Ross, August 24, 1856. To them were born six children, three died in infancy and one son Orlay V. died at the age of 25 years. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips and their family came to Iowa in 1860 and located in Montgomery County near Villisca. They made the trip overland in a “prairie schooner.” In 1880 they moved to Guide Rock, Nebraska where Mr. Phillips engaged in the livery business and in 1894 they returned to Villisca. With the exception of the few years lived in Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Poston lived in the vicinity of Villisca for fifty-three years. For several years Mr. Phillips had a retired life, owing to the condition of his physical health. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife and two sons, Ed of Omaha and Frank of Superior, Nebraska, and the latter’s daughter, Mrs. Walline, were here for the funeral which was held from the home, Friday afternoon at four o’clock. The Christian Science services were used. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Mrs. Phillips is now with her sons where she will visit for a while and then return to Villisca to make her home.
