Description	:	Edward Byron Martin was the son of John Martin and Flora Indora Benedict. He married Nettie May Winterowd, daughter of Hezekiah Cartwright Winterowd and Anna Thompson, on October 18, 1893, in Montour, Tama County, Iowa; they were married until her death on March 27, 1905. The couple had three children, namely: Wanda Sybil (Martin) Hewitt (1894-1962), wife of Lee Jackson Hewitt; George Edward Martin (1901-1978); and Byron M. Martin (1905-1953). After Nettie's death, Edward married: Grace, ca 1906; Emma L., before 1920; and Mae, before 1930; they were married until his death. Appeal-Democrat; Yuba County, California; Thursday, August 1, 1935, Evening Edition; Page A4: "MINER DIES IN ISOLATED CAMP A lonely Yuba river canyon mining camp, two miles below Rices crossing, near North San Juan, was the death place of Edward Byron Martin, 60, Wednesday evening. The deceased had been living with his wife, May [sic-Mae] Martin, and mining on the river for the past three months. Death came suddenly, through a heart attack. Martin was a native of Iowa and had been living in California 10 years. He was a member of the Winfield (Kan.) Woodmen of the World. Surviving are his widow and three adult children, Byron and [George] Edward Martin and Mrs. L. J. Hewitt, the latter of Houston, Tex. More than three hours were required to carry the body from the canyon. Assisting Lauren Bryan and Clarence Robey, of the Lipp and Sullivan parlors, were O. P. Ghirst, Calvin Linnell, Hubert Potts and Charles Morton, miners. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Lipp & Sullivan." Although Edward's obituary states that he had been living in California for 10 years, he was living in Arkansas on April 1, 1930, when the 1930 Census was taken. E. B. Martin, born about 1875, Iowa; his wife, Mae Martin, born about 1887, Louisiana; and his son, Byron Martin, born about 1905, Iowa, all appear in Albion, White County, Arkansas. When Edward's mother died on December 19, 1928, Edward was listed in her obituary as living in Lindsay, [Tulare County,] California.
