Description	:	EDWARD CARTWRIGHT A FORMER RESIDENT DIES NEAR OSCEOLA Edward Cartwright, 64, a resident of the Nodaway vicinity for many years, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday at his home then miles southwest of Osceola, Iowa. His death followed a lingering illness due to pernicous anemia. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Nodaway Methodist Church and were conducted by the Rev. C. S. Dayhoff. The pall bearers, who were the five sons and son-in-law of the deceased were: Forest, Fred, George, Paul, and Tom Cartwright, and Francis Bonham. Burial was made in the Nodaway Cemetery. Edward Cartwright was born March 3, 1867 at Oskaloosa, Iowa and his early life was spent there and in Garden Grove, Iowa. The family also resided a few years in Missouri before moving to Adams County, Iowa. Mr. Cartwright was married October 28, 1898 to Miss Addie Thompson and to this union nine children were born who are, Mrs. Ethel Gray, Fred and Thomas Cartwright, all of Osceola; Mrs. Elzine Bonham and Forest and Paul Cartwright from Nodaway; Mrs. R. S. Routh of Villisca; George Cartwright of Truman, Minnesota; one son, Willie, preceded his father in death. Mr. Cartwright, with his family moved in 1919 to from Adams County to Minnesota, where they resided 3 years, moving back to Clark County, Iowa, near Osceola. Besides his wife and eight children, Mr. Cartwright leaves 20 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Alice Fetrick of Wyoming, and one brother, Will of Nodaway. Funeral services for Mr. Cartwright were conducted at his home near Osceola by one of his farmer neighbors, J. O. Jones, who paid him the following tribute which he read also at the service in Nodaway. “I have been asked to say a few words before leaving this sorrowing home. These words I offer as a tribute to my esteemed and honored friends, Mr. Cartwright, and if I should say one word which was not true and befitting to his character I would feel that I was unworthy of entering the sacred portals of his home. If I were gifted with divine expression I could not adequately portray the affection that constantly pervaded its walls. “It is enough for me to say that in his home the atmosphere of love is as pure and inspiring as was ever bothered by the sons and daughters of this man. The gracious hospitality of his family will be one of the most delightful memories of my life I know of no greater tribute that could be said of him than that he was a kind and loving father, a devoted companion, a true and trusted friend. “While he was passed to his reward and left behind him a grief too profound for words, he has also left recollections of an exalted life, so full of kindness, noble aspirations and worthy deeds that when the clouds of sorrow shall have lifted the sunshine of these recollections will be a living monument in the minds of all those who have loved and respected him. The recollections of his life will stand as a beacon to light the pathways for his present and future generations.” “He has fought the noble fight and gained his victory and has now laid down his armor. Like a shadow softly and sweetly thrown from a passing cloud, death fell upon him.
