Mr. Fundermann had been in failing health the past four years, but his condition did not become serious until March 13. Death was caused by a complication of ailments. Rev. C.F. Gottberg, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiated at the last rites for the highly respected resident of the Midway community. Burial was in Midway Cemetery beside his first wife. Hudgel's Funeral Service of Anthon had charge of the arrangements. Edward Diedrich Fundermann was born December 11, 1867, to Diedrich and Mary Kroeger Fundermann in Scott Co., Iowa. When he was a boy of eight years, the family moved onto a farm in Crawford County two and one-half miles north of Schleswig. There he spent his boyhood days. Deceased was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran faith August 11, 1888, in Grant Twp., Woodbury Co., Iowa, and was married December 5, 1895, at Schleswig to Maria Hauschildt. They made their home in Crawford County until 1908 when they moved onto a farm in Morgan Twp., Woodbury County. Mr. Fundermann's remaining days were spent in this county. For ten years the Fundermann family resided on the old home place near Midway. Then in 1918 they moved to Correctionville and it was there that Mrs. Fundermann passed away January 12, 1919. Nine children had been born to them, one dying in infancy. On November 27, 1919, Mr. Fundermann was united in marriage to Emma Krager at the Midway church and the following spring they returned to Morgan Twp. to make their home for seven years. No children were born to this union. From 1927-1929 Mr. Fundermann operated a filling station at Cushing and then he and his wife moved onto a farm between Bronson and Salix, making their home there for six years. In the spring of 1935 they returned to the Midway community they loved so well and it was there that Mr. Fundermann spent his last earthly days. Deceased was a deacon at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church at Midway for 15 years, during which time he gave gladly and liberally toward the building of the new church. Survivors include his wife, Emma, six daughters, Mrs. Gilbert Schmidt of Battle Creek; Mrs. Dewey Henry, Mrs. Everett Forney and Miss Jeanette Fundermann of Sioux City; Mrs. Arthur Schaffer of Keokuk, Iowa; and Mrs. Melvin Ganoe of Correctionville; two sons, Theodore Fundermann of Anthon and Edward Fundermann Jr. of Sanborn; six stepchildren, Mrs. Dick Bernhardt of Correctionville; Mrs. Alfred Beers of Danbury; Mrs. Lester Groth of Cushing; Miss Lola Krager of Sioux City; Melvin and Alwayne Krager at home; and adopted daughter, Donna Mae Fundermann; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Carstens and Mrs. Peter Boysen of Schleswig; Mrs. Anna Bliesmann of Denison, Mrs. Bertha Frank of Ida Grove; and Mrs. Lena Schumacher of Cushing; 18 grandchildren and a host of friends.
