Marker, a young man living in Ottercreek township, was found hanging by the neck, dead, in an old house on the farm of John Marker at 8 o'clock p.m. January 12. Mr. Marker had shown signs of mental disturbance for the past three or four months. He was a steady, industrious young man with a high sense of honor and a good character. He leaves a young wife and baby to mourn their loss. His wife, parents and brothers had been very anxious concerning his condition and had been guarding him carefully, hoping his derangement was only temporary, and that he would soon regain his right mental faculties. On Friday he told his wife that he was going to visit his brother and would return in about an hour. Not returning, a search was made, with the above grisly result. Coroner T. P. Stanton was at once summoned, and a careful investigation was made by the jurors, Charles Harris, William Welch and Richard Haltom, who decided that Edward E. Marker came to his death by an act committed by his own hands, while laboring under mental melancholia.
