Never was this passage brought home to the minds of our people more emphatically then on Friday, yesterday morning, when the citizens of our community were greatly shocked at the sad news of the death, by heart trouble, of Mr. Earl Mears, a popular young man of Crisfield. Mr. Mears retired on Thursday night apparently in the best of health, and about 3 o'clock Friday morning his wife was awakened by his struggles. She tried to arouse him, but found that he was in an unconscious condition and immediately called his father, Mr. John H. Mears, who was spending the night at their home. Mr. Mears came to the room and took his son up in his arms and a physician was quickly summoned. The stricken young man died, however, in a few minutes without regaining consciousness before the physician arrived. After an examination, the physician, Dr. C. E. Collins, pronounced heart failure the cause of Mr. Mears' death. Mr. Mears was about twenty-four years of age, and one of the most well known young men of our city, and for several years past had been engaged in the livery and hauling business with his brother and father. He was recognized as a hard working, energetic young man, whom a good future awaited, and had the respect, esteem and good wishes of the entire populace of out community. To the young men of Crisfield he was more like a brother, and in his kind hearted manner, with a sunny smile and a good word for all, he had gained warm devoted friendship, the ties of which even death cannot severe. His memory will be cherished by his numerous friends, long years after the grim reaper has called their comrade from among them. About three years ago, Mr. Mears was married to Miss Clara Sterling, a daughter of the late Leon Sterling, who survives him. He is also survived by a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Mears, four brothers, Messrs. H. Gordon, Jno. T., Lloyd and Reeve Mears, and a sister Mrs. Fletcher Purnell, of Washington, D. C. His remains will be laid to rest in the Crisfield Cemetery Sunday afternoon, after the funeral services which will be held at the home of his brother Mr. H. Gordon Mears. We extend our sympathy to his loved ones. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Saturday, March 2nd, 1907 _____ Laid To Rest. The funeral services over the remains of Me. Earl Mears, who died last Friday morning, were held from the home of his brother, Mr. H. Gordon Mears, on Sunday afternoon. Rev. J. P. Outten, of the Immanuel M. E. church, Rev. Louis Randall, of the Mount Pleasant M. P. Church, and Rev. H. S. Dulaney, of the Asbury M. E. church, officiated. The body was carried to the Asbury cemetery where interment was made in the family lot. The pall bearers were Messrs. Jas. H. Nelson, Maurice Tawes, Chas. Sterling, Oscar Dize, Howard Sterling, and Lorie C. Quinn, Jr., all of whom were old friends and companions of the deceased. The funeral was one of the largest in attendance ever known in Crisfield, and many beautiful floral tributes were presented by live long friends.
