Description	:	Edward Jeffery Francis was born in Lincolnshire, England, April 2, 1824, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.B. Gardner in Nelson, February 5, 1917, aged 92 years, 10 months and 3 days. He grew to manhood in his native country. Read More	Edward Jeffery Francis was born in Lincolnshire, England, April 2, 1824, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.B. Gardner in Nelson, February 5, 1917, aged 92 years, 10 months and 3 days. He grew to manhood in his native country. Coming to America in 1852, he settled in New York, but a little later he came to Will county (sic), Illinois. He was married to Margaret Pitchard at Joliet September 6, 1858. For a number of years they lived near Wheatland. In 1867 they moved to Gillman, Illinois, where they resided 'till 1878, when they came to Nebraska settling in a farm in Nuckolls county (sic) just east of Nelson Twelve years ago they retired from farm life and lived in the east part of Nelson 'till last September, when failing health forced them to give up housekeeping. Mrs. Frances preceded him to the glory world the 15th of December, 1916. In early life they were members of the Episcopal church (sic), but about forty years ago united with the Methodist Episcopal church (sic). He died triumphant in the faith. He outlived all his brothers and sisters, there being twelve in family. He leaves two daughters and one son: Mrs. E.B. Gardner and Frank Francis of Nelson, and Mrs. E.E. Rollins of Bellingham, Washington. The funeral service was held at the M.E. Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by their pastor W.W. Hull. Mr. Francis was, we believe, the oldest person in this section. He was well and favorably known to most everyone as Grandpa Francis. While of course he was frail with his extreme age, yet he was active and possessed al (sic) his mental facilities up to the very last. He was very genial in manner a ninspiring (sic) citizen and neighbor. Death came without a struggle and he was gently wafted into the great beyond in the presence of an old neighbor who had just dropped in for a friendly visit.
