Francis was born near Lockport, Illinois, August 28th, 1863, and departed from this life at his home in Nelson, Nebraska, May 25, 1942, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 29 days. When yet a small boy he moved with his family to Gilman, Illinois, and later in 1878 he came with his pioneer parents to Nebraska, locating on the farm southeast of Nelson where he lived until a year ago, with the exception of a short time which was spent in Colorado on a "government claim". Francis was born near Lockport, Illinois, August 28th, 1863, and departed from this life at his home in Nelson, Nebraska, May 25, 1942, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 29 days. On April 5th, 1903, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Annie L. Bardsley. Her three children, Gladys, Wayne and Billy grew to maturity in their home. Gladys passed away May 11, 1918, just a few days before the date of her graduation from the Nelson High School. Mr. Francis leaves to mourn his going, his wife, Annie L. Francis, two sons, Wm. O. Bardsley of Wauneta, Nebr., and H. Wayne Bardsley of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. E.B. Gardner, and niece, Ada Gardner of Edgar, Nebr.; one nephew, Earl Gardner of Long Beach, Calif.; two grand sons, Richard Wayne Bardsley of Wauneta, Nebr.; and Mark Orner Bardsley of Tulsa, Okla.; and an entire neighborhood of old friends. Mr. Francis has been a member of the First Methodist Church of Nelson, Nebr., since 1915. He was a steady type of man. His residence of 63 years on one farm is something of a record in any community. May his quiet life stand as an inspiration to us who carry on. Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Methodist church with Rev. A.J. Rich in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. F. Murphy, Mrs. W.L. Portwood and W.C. Hall were the singers and Mrs. H.H. Hite presided at the piano. Interment was made in the Nelson cemetery (sic). IN GRATITUDE. To all the friends who so kindly helped us at the time of the passing of our loved one, we express our sincere appreciation--especially for the beautiful flowers. Annie L.
