Klauer, a well-known Akron business man over a long period of years and a life-long resident here, passed away Sunday evening, May 8, of a heart attack, after being in failing health following a hip fracture a few months ago, aged nearly 57 years. Edward Ross Klauer was born in Akron on May 16, 1903, a son in a large family of children born to Edward P. and Julia Ross Klauer, pioneer residents here. He graduated from Akron High school in 1922 and operated a popcorn wagon for several years, from the earnings of which he opened a grocery store here. Later he and his brothers operated grocery stores in Hawarden and Beresford. For a number of years he has operated a restaurant and tavern in Akron. Preceding him in death was a sister, Lucille, and his father and mother. Survivors are his widow, Sally; five brothers, Bernard, of Vallejo, Calif.; Richard, of Salinas, Calif.; James, of Akron, Ia., Gene, of King City, Calif.; and Gordon, of Sacramento, Calif.; six sisters, Mrs. Neomi Debenham of Saratoga, Calif.; Mrs. Clara Schmidt, of Dubuque, Ia.; Miss Gertrude Klauer, of Vallejo, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Lingley, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Catherine Vance, of Storm Lake, Ia., and Miss Julia Klauer, of Salinas, Calif.; also, a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held last Thursday forenoon in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Rev. J.G. Skahill officiating. Acting as servers were his two nephews, Pat and Tim Klauer. Pallbearers were Edmond Heider, R.D. Clark, Darrell Palmer, Leonard Lamoureux, Al Thomas and J.H. Earnest. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. Local business places closed during the services Thursday out of respect to the deceased. Relatives attending the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. P.B. Vance and family, of Storm Lake, Iowa; Miss Julia Klauer and Richard Klauer, of Salinas, Calif.; Miss Gertrude Klauer and Bernard Klauer, of Vallejo, Calif.; Philip Klauer, of Hollister, Calif.; Mrs. Neomie Debenham, of Santiago, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ludwig, of Alcester, S.D.; Mrs. Minnie Erickson, Oscar Graverson and Mrs. T.
