Description	:	Edward was the first son and second child of Arend Jan and Berendina Hendrika "Diena" (nee Heusinkveld) Vanderbeek. He was born in a log house on a 40 acre farm near Greenleafton. When he was 15 years old, the family relocated to Nebraska where other Vanderbeek families had moved earlier. Edward had 12 siblings - Dellie "Della", Garret, Johanna (who died at age 1), John, Ella, Gertie, Hannah, Minnie, William Arthur, Henry John, Benjamin Franklin "Frank", and Jacoba "Coba". When he was 15 years old, the family relocated to Nebraska where other Vanderbeek families had moved earlier. Edward had 12 siblings - Dellie "Della", Garret, Johanna (who died at age 1), John, Ella, Gertie, Hannah, Minnie, William Arthur, Henry John, Benjamin Franklin "Frank", and Jacoba "Coba". Being the oldest boy, he was looked up to as a leader by the other children. Edward lived on the family farm with other siblings and their mother. After she died, he mostly worked near the house and other buildings while the younger boys did the field work and tended the livestock. He had a large garden, an orchard, raised chickens, maintained the buildings and farm machinery, provided fuel for the house and helped Hannah with some of the housework. After Henry married, Edward and Hannah moved to Panama. For awhile he owned the Panama Grain Elevator and he, also, served as janitor for the Pella Church.
