His childhood was spent with his parents farming in Boone County. On October 18, 1914 he was united in marriage to Letha Apple at St. Edward, Nebraska. Soon after their marriage they moved to Madison, Nebraska where they resided for a short time and then returned to Boone County where they farmed until March 1, 1922 when they moved to Hamilton County, where he has since resided. They farmed north of Aurora and from 1933 to 1961 he operated his own trucking firm along with his farming operations. He retired from farming in 1965 but continued to make his home on the farm until his health forced him to move to the Manor in Aurora. His wife preceded him in death on April 27, 1974. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith at an early age, and since residing near Aurora had always been a faithful member of St. Mary's Parish. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Joseph, Ben and Fred Strotman and one sister, Mrs. Anna Gress. His survivors include three sons, Francis, and James Strotman of Aurora and Edward Strotman, Jr. of Harper Woods, Michigan; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Wright of Pontiac, Michigan and Mrs. Ruby Ingram of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many close friends.
