He had been ill for the past 10 days but his death was unexpected. Funeral services were held at 4:30 pm Tuesday at Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Church. Officiating were the rector the Rev A Nelson Daunt and Dr H D Bull. Burial was in the churchyard with Masonic honors accorded by Winyah Lodge 40 AFM. Mr. Plowden was born Feb 10 1885 in Clarendon County near Manning and was a son of the late Edwin Ruthben Plowden and Mrs. Florida Oliver Plowden. He attended the schools of Clarendon County and Clemson College. He came to Georgetown in 1906 to accept a position with the Kaminski Grocery Co. and was associated with the company for a period of 45 years until it closed several years ago. For the past four years he has been employed by Ryan Stevedoring Co and Kraft Credit Union. Mr. Plowden was a member and a past master of Winyah Lodge 40 AFM; he was district deputy of the 25th Masonic District and a member of the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine. He was also a member of the Carolina Commander 1 of the Knight Templars; a member of Winyah Chapter 45 RAM; and of the Winyah Council 24 R & S and past high priest and past illustrious master of these bodies. He was a member of Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Church and an associate vestryman of the church having severed on the vestry for a number of years. He was also a member and past president of the Winyah Indigo Society. He is survived by his widow; the former Miss Edna Daggett; two daughters Mrs. DC Wylie Jr of Chester and Miss Harriett Plowden of Georgetown; two grandsons; two brothers Dr HH Plowden of Columbia and SO Plowden of Stateburg; and three sisters Mrs JR Nelson and Miss Harriett Plowden both of Columbia, and Mrs. Edgar Nelson of Gable.
