Description	:	Elaine Walen, age 88, of Carrington, ND, formerly of Glenfield, ND, died Friday, December 11, 2009, at Golden Acres Manor, in Carrington. Elaine J. Walen was born on July 20, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Julia (Pierson) Johnson at the Johnson family farm at Glenfield, ND. She was raised and attended school in Glenfield, graduating in 1939. She attended Valley City Teachers College for 2 years and taught school in Oakes, at country schools near Kensal and Bordulac, and later at Glenfield. Read More	Elaine Walen, age 88, of Carrington, ND, formerly of Glenfield, ND, died Friday, December 11, 2009, at Golden Acres Manor, in Carrington. Elaine J. Walen was born on July 20, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Julia (Pierson) Johnson at the Johnson family farm at Glenfield, ND. She was raised and attended school in Glenfield, graduating in 1939. She attended Valley City Teachers College for 2 years and taught school in Oakes, at country schools near Kensal and Bordulac, and later at Glenfield. On November 2, 1946, Elaine married Kenneth Walen in Carrington. They farmed at Glenfield and later operated the Glenfield Station and Insurance Agency and Elaine was a teller for the Foster County Bank Branch located in Glenfield. Kenneth died on June 27, 1991. In March of 2009, she moved to Poplar Court in Carrington. She was a life member of the Glenfield Lutheran Church (now known as Prairie Faith Lutheran Church), a member of the "Friendly Neighbors Homemakers", Glenfield Ladies Aid, and VFW Auxiliary. Elaine enjoyed her family, playing scrabble and her farm yard. Elaine is survived by her two sons, Curt (Nyla) Walen, Carrington, ND, and John (Donita) Walen, Washburn, ND; one daughter-in-law, Beth Walen, Fergus Falls, MN; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth; son, Donald; four brothers and three sisters.
