She lived in Emerson, Nebraska for a number of years and later moved to Sioux City, Iowa. Eleanor passed away Sunday August 25, 1985 at a Sioux City hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Lewis, 72 years of age, resided at 2354 Nash, where her occupation was people and her purpose was to serve her beloved Jesus. Survivors include her husband, one son, Lyle D Lewis, Oto, Iowa, one daughter, Mrs. Ole (Mona) Olson of Sioux City, Iowa: three sisters, Mrs. Opal Trevett of Emerson, Nebraska, Mrs. Lou Jean Vogel of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Mrs. Oral Spigner of Arlington, Virginia, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Eleanor was a lady of compassion. She always had a word of encouragement to the "down-and-outer". She desired to serve others but most of all to serve her loving Jesus in the best way she knew how. She was not afraid to speak out for her Lord. Talented with the writing of poetry and songs, Eleanor used these particular writings in the service she conducted as a lay preacher. She touched the lives of the young and old alike. She loved to draw, cook, and collected dolls as a hobby. Eleanor lived life to its fullest. Best known to me as "Grandma Lewis", I saw a person of individuality. She was her own person, conforming to no one, but believed in being herself. She was genuine and honest with everyone, and we will always remember Grandma in this way-- a real person who gave of herself and substance to meet the needs of those around her. Some did not understand her but the lives that were touched knew her heart and her true attitude of seeking to love and help those who were hurting. The foster children and relatives, as well as her friends, learned about the great mother, grandmother , and friends she really was. She will be greatly missed by all of us. Obituary The Sioux City Journal, Sioux City, Iowa Tuesday August 27, 1985 Eleanor Lewis, 72, 2354 Nash St. died Sunday in a Sioux City hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson, Nebraska. The Rev. Tom Greves will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Mrs. Lewis, the former Eleanor Weldon was born Feb. 25, 1913 in Springfield, South Dakota. She married Howard P Lewis August 22, 1938. They made their home in Sioux City.
